COMMUNITY
Being a musician has helped Cesar rise above poverty and make a name for himself in the field, but he has always tried to give back in many ways: through music, benefit concerts, and by reaching out to the community, both in the United States and in his native Peru. With songs like Inti Libertad and Serranito (The Mountain Man), Cesar has drawn attention to the plight of the downtrodden - children, laborers and the indigenous peoples of his own culture (many of whom still speak their native languages, including Quechua and Aymara) whom he saw subjected to prejudice and abuse growing up in the Andes, and who he urges to find pride in their cultures instead of trying to hide its richness.
In the 1980s, Cesar decided to invest a substantial part of his Inca Son earnings in the happiness of the children in Ascope. He funded a beautiful playground built there, the first in the region. Christened “Boston Playground,” it was created with the hope that the young children in his native village would have the opportunity for “carefree play – something that all children should have, as a birthright, but which was always out of my own reach as a kid.”
Cesar’s non-profit fundraising concerts with Inca Son have benefitted numerous causes, including: Oxfam America, Amnesty International “Genesis Foundation,” Walk for Aids, Walk for Hunger, Earth Day, Shriner’s, and Red Cross. Proceeds from Inca Son concerts have benefited the victims of the Tsunami in Japan; the Twin Towers disaster; Hurricane Katrina; and earthquakes in Peru.

INTI LIBERTAD
